What Affects the Price?

• Bay module. An elevation that does not divide neatly into the module means part bays and tube infill.
• Component condition. Newer stock erects faster and inspects cleaner.
• Height. Every additional lift adds standards, ledgers, braces, boards and guard rails, and above roughly 6 m the tie-in and bracing requirements step up.
• Elevation area. Scaffold is priced on the face area covered in m², not on the floor area of the building.
• Hire period. Most contractors quote a first period then a weekly or monthly extension rate. Over-runs are where budgets slip.

Choosing a Scaffolding Contractor in Cape Town

• Who is the competent person appointed in writing for the scaffold, and are the erectors, team leaders and inspectors trained for their roles? Construction Regulation 16 requires that appointment.
